Ebola Detected in the United States

The Ebola virus was detected in the United States when an individual visited a Texas hospital in mid-September.

Hospital sources say the patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, had relocated recently from Liberia and came to the hospital with symptoms of stomach pains, nausea, and dizziness. Hospital staff did not initially connect Duncan's symptoms to the Ebola virus, and Duncan and was released.

On September 28, Duncan returned to the hospital and was admitted for fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Duncan tested positive for the Ebola virus and was placed in isolation and treated for the debilitating disease.

Unfortunately, on October 8, Duncan died from Ebola complications.
