Old School Friday: Reeeeeeeemiiiiiiix!

Hey All, this week's OSF theme is Remakes (remix - whatever)... and I've chosen a couple:

Original: The Temptations - Just My Imagination

Boyz II Men - Just My Imagination

Original: Chaka Khan - I'm Every Woman

Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman

Original: Michael Jackson - Wanna Be Startin' Something

Akon (f/Michael Jackson) - Wanna Be Startin' Something

I really wanted to do this song which was remade by Al B. Sure but I couldn't find Al's version. :(

Original: The Eagles - Hotel California

  1. I didn't know the theme this week so I just went with my own and I still ended up okay.
Anyway, Michael jackson songs can not be remixed or remade. Like Prince those two just can't be done any better.

    I'm every woman . . . I like both versions.

  2. Sharon is right. Can't do Prince or Mike over. Although Alicia doing a Prince song isn't half bad.

  3. I have to agree with you guys. No matter who remakes Prince or MJ I still like their versions better.

  4. You took it all the way with three different choices. Well done! I think it is great to see Chaka Khan when she was looking slim and sexy! I also enjoyed seeing Whitney when she was happy and full of joy. Finally, I agree with the others ... just leave Michael's original music alone...

  5. Akon? I don't think so...Maybe I'm just old - LOL. Happy OSF!

  6. Hotel Californian was remade?! That is a favorite song from my youth and I still enjoy it on classic rock radio stations.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Boyz II Men version.

    Happy OSF!

  7. "I'm Every Woman" that was my song when I was 8, lol. My momma had The Bodyguard Soundtrack and I just loved that song. Performed it all the time for her. It wasn't until I got older and I asked "why that lady singing Whitneys song" Chaka had sung it originally.

  8. Nice choices Shae!
The Temptations! Hands down, can not be beat!
And Chaka is my girl (Whitney did look, good, happy & Healthy) but no one can remake Chaka and sound better than Chaka did!
MJ at his finest, can not be imitated or touched!
I so love this song by the Eagles, that horn in the beinning is hot! I am not an Al B sure fan so I am not even missing that video! The eagles win this hands down. Oh did I say that the horn was hot!

  9. Yes, Hotel California was remade by Al B. Sure but I could only find an Amazon snippet, not the whole song. Don't worry though, the Eagles out sing him and I'm sure he's not playing those instruments. LOL

  10. Whitney's cool...but no one can TOUCH Chaka's I'm Every Woman...her lungs have so much power!!!! she might want to go on tour and sing that song a couple of times since her and her son..have to pay over a million dollars for that murder a couple of yrs back :(

**If I remember..I'm going to attempt to join in next Fri :)

  11. I know... Chaka may want to stop the small venue gigs with Prince and just to a Old School tour or Come Back tour or something.

  12. Good choices...really good choices! SjP

  13. I can't get into Akon either...he had that one song that I liked and then I was like, "Eh..."

I'm Every Woman, though? I'm all for that!

    I think I'm getting old...

  14. Great selections, and in such abundance! I've got to go with the originals on all of your choices. I've only heard Al.B sure's version of Hotel California a couple of times, but the Eagles original is hard to touch if you're not including some real guitar playing in it.

  15. Hey DP,

That's exactly how I felt. I heard the Al B. version & thought, "This is a damned good song." Then I heard the original & was like, "WHAT? This is sick." LOL He tried, really tried, but the Eagles took that easily.
